Description:
The 1950 Harland & Wolff, Glasgow, built dry cargo bulk carrier WENNY, owned by Sophus Schanche of Paradis, near Bergen, Norway, is seen passing Portishead, outbound from Avonmouth, at the end of June 1968.
Built as the oil tanker BINTA, she was converted to dry cargo in 1961.
WENNY sadly capsized in heavy weather 110nm North of Andenes in the Arctic Ocean on 31.7.69 with the loss of nine lives, while on voyage from Svalbard to Mo-I-Rana with a cargo of coal and some passengers.
