Description:

Finally the lighting was right for this scene: Cap San Marco just left the shipyard after her first class renewal and made room for Cap San Lorenzo, the last of four Cap Sans to be docked in Hamburg.

That's what 5 years of service will do ...

First off, thank you Vlad, Ron, Jan Ove and Hannes for your kind words. Indeed Maersk has bought Hamburg Süd and the reflagging is complete. Cap San and Santa ships have Danish flag (Homeport København); Monte, Rio, Cap and Polar have Singapore.

The big ones will go to Danish flag, most others to Singapore flag, and of course they will keep the Brazilian flag as well.
Cheers,
Roy

Hi Michael,
pardon my ignorance but has Maersk bought/taken over Columbus line (Hamburg SUD)? I can remember Columbus line as a stand alone company operating to and from Australia since the late 1950's

Ron

I remember Jens, in fact that motif is now on the wall of our office lobby.

I think you chose the perfect location, Bubendey Ufer would have been a bit too far away and the angle wouldn't have been that good. Yes, it's a pity that we will loose this spotting location.

And should they one day really expand ECT then the view from Parkhöft into Waltershofer Hafen will be lost, too. I caught Cap San Marco there when she made her first call at Hamburg in May 2014...

Thanks Jens. I was scratching my head wondering where the best place would be, in case of cloudy skies Docklands would have been my first choice. It will be a big loss when they remove this tip to make the turning circle bigger, great location on long summer evenings when the sun really comes around.

Splendid photo, Michael. Right time, right place :-)

Thank you Igor.
Sadly it was indeed the last chance for this kind of composition in Hamburg, at least for a while. The other Cap Sans will be docked elsewhere, next time a comparison with a Triple-E would be interesting as well.

Very interesting rare combination.

Thank you very much Roy.

Yes, Maersk decided to keep the brand and by extension the classic red. There is however a distinct Maersk blue flag flying from the main mast of both vessels :-)

Very nice Michael.
They kept her red.

Roy
