Built as a North Atlantic liner.. yes... as IVERNIA. In this photo she has already been rebuilt as a full time cruise ship and renamed FRANCONIA.

By strange coincidence... FRANCONIA was my first ship.. as deck Boy (1967) and the tug aft, Red Funnel's CALSHOT was my last ship... in a working capacity... as Master (1992). Love them both!

Hi

Couldn't agree more. She was designed and built for regular scheduled liner voyages from Liverpool to Canada, and so was designed to fight the North Atlantic. Not like today's blocks of flats that are designed to pootle around the Caribbean or the Med.

Classic Liner design , better than the modern modular build.
