They do need this "cow catcher" for the unique berths in Calais and Dover. The ships internal ramp rests on the metal structure so that the shore ramp can rest on it. It's not the prettiest solution but then again this is only a short term charter. The ship is going back to Brittany Ferries in March 2013.
