@ Ted..Thank you for the info..You certainly have a nicer time than on a container ship. It's good that you get to spend some time in port..This is good. Definately bulk carriers are better the box boats in my opinion...anyway :-))

@ Samson,,yes correct

Am I right in my assumption that, on your ship, holds 2, 3 and 4 are of the box-shaped, open-hatch type while Nos 1 and 5 are conventional bulk carrier holds with topside tanks?

BTW: You seemed to be inundated with comments the other day, But "Well Done"....
All In A Days Work, eh? Cheers: S (Literally, just raising a glass!)

Yeah...Was always a collective sigh of relief....sort of "That was a great port...Good run ashore etc....but let's get some fresh air!" Once past the bar or fairway buoy..we became ourselves again.... Happy Days indeed. Cheers. S

@ Pata
agree,,but nowadays more and more the best part of sailing is "Pilot off" on the out not in !!!!

Glad we could be of help! I ended up doing all sorts towards the end....as the rush to use satellites came in. (They eat less apparently) But wouldn't swop my experiences for any other job. Alas! My age precludes any return to sea....otherwise I'd be there tomorrow. Loved every minute of the 17 years I did. Cheers...S.

Hi Pata

those days of sparky are long time gone :-(,, As Capt i never had one, though as young sailot they came in handy because they were the ones who on german ships made the cash advance !!!!!

Hi Capt Ted, I see you have sparked a lot of interest with this dockside shot.....I must dig out my old B&W's from my West Africa days....see what interest they generate. (I was the Sparks back then.)

@ Ozzy
port stay between 48 hrs,,here,,disch 4800 mt SBM and 7-10 days, when full ship. sometimes like ports in Venezuela/Brasil ,2-3 weeks anchorage and 2-3 weeks dish time,,in Brasil disch time quicker,,, so 4 weeks one port is not seldom in total

Thanks Jens
@ Ozzy,,, total crew 23 men,, 8 men engine depatment incl Elec. 3 Naut officers and me and 8 on deck,,plus cook/std/Adm,,,, as per safe manning we need total of 14,,but keep in mind safe manning,,which was translayed erronously into minimum safe manning is the crew which a ship needs safely to move a ship from A - B,,, not the crew to operate the ship at all times.

Hi Robert, thanks
Those are not the high rollers like big boxers or new paxers, but then,,almost everybody can take those pictures because of the nature and ease of access taking it but these berth overviews of course are a kind of special because regular spotters seldom have the opportunity to make them in the first place.

Hello Captain Ted, I like that kind of shot where we could see that if our ships sail it is because man from all over the world have taken time for load it or unload it so with your shot we can see a little part of their work!
I am not sure every admins will agree with me, but on my side it is a post i really very appreciate.
Thanks to share, Robert08
