Thanks Jens and James for the explaination.
Just reviewed the christening ceremony on TV.
I didn't know that the MSC ships are able to do "DisneyCruise-like" typhon birthdays songs. Just great! ;-)

A number of bridge watchkeepers and Masters prefer open bridge wings as they allow you to gain a better appreciation of the weather conditions - there's a tendency for people in enclosed bridges to lose both situational and outside awareness. Perhaps the management have taken their views into account.

Stefan, thank you very much. Hope you can make it next year...:-)
As for the black line, it must be a trick of the light, it can only be seen on Ulf's and my photo. The open bridge wings I have to pass on to the experts...
Best regards, Jens

Nice shot, thanks for sharing. Couldn't be at the festival this year again. So it's nice to see all the ships. As I'm looking at this picture two questions come in mind: Is there really a black line at the bow or is it just shadow? and This is a new ship with open bridge wings, why?

Ah, sorry Antonio, partially wrong info. She's leaving Hamburg tonight (May 11) around 10pm for her maiden voyage to Lisbon.

Yes, Antonio. She was part of the ships' parade opening the festivities of Hamburg harbor's 824th birthday. Tonight at around 9.40pm she's had a wonderful naming ceremony here (which was even broadcast live on German TV) and just as I'm writing this she must be leaving Hamburg for her maiden voyage to Lisbon.
Regards, Jens
