Wow Clyde...thanks a bunch, but looking at your portfolio, it's a long stretch for me to reach your experience and skills when it comes to photography!
I'm not even scratching the surface yet!
I find the learning curve of digital photography to be pretty steep. In the days of using film, you pretty much knew what you could and could not do, but the sensors in today's cameras are so sensitive and unforgiving.
I read a lot about photography and have found the B&H channel on YouTube to be very good on providing useful info on the technical side of the picture taking process. There you'll find hours upon hours of streams where professional photographers share their experiences.
this out as an example:https://www.google.no/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=3&ved=0CDsQtwIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DMJB4S2AAPTU&ei=yR-SUdysKYq74ATOloG4BA&usg=AFQjCNEYNbqyWgwByDWYr0OtuyLocG3ozg&sig2=hNQ8lyc6wqslSMEAai0ZOg

I know....a long url, but it's a good video, and there are a ton of them in this channel.

Cheers!

Thanks Per. Its a great story telling image. And you have confirmed the limitations of my photographic skill. Maybe one day I'll learn more.

Thanks guys!
@ jadran: There is virtually no color correction done with this, but since I take pictures in raw format, I have to "develop" the rawfiles. I use Lightroom for that.
When I shot this particular image I exposed for the ship, knowing that the large white would make the darker clouds underexposed. This I find is the only way to get as close to natural contrast in the clouds as possible. If I let the camera decide what's the correct exposure, this type of picture would come out as 18 percent grey with close to no contrast or dynamic range.
The only things done in Lightroom during the develop process, are to drop the exposure by half a stop to get detail in the whites and sharpening the overall image. Oh....and correct for the sloping horizon. I allways tend to sag to the left when taking pictures.

Have a nice day!

Superb photo technique !! ..... at first glance it seems like 100% photoshoped but actually it is about zero (0) percent photoshop applied.

: well done Per ... can you confirm me !

Great shot of not only the ship, but the sky and water too.

Hi Per,

thanks for your words!

I hope so too! But I am in Norway in summer since 2011 and there we nearly never had such a bad weather - so I think the weather in Oslo should be great! ;-)

Thanks Max! Wish you a pleasant journey and hope you are more lucky with the weather than the passengers on this cruise.
