Description:

After GNEISENAU was disarmed in 1943, two of her 15 cm gun turrets was reused as shore batteries (Batteri Grådyb), on the danish island Fanø.
After 2WW, the gun turrets was moved to Stevnsfortet, a cold war fortress, that should monitor the waters between Denmark and Sweden, and protect the beaches in Køge and Faxe Bay, in case of Soviet invaion.
The Fort and guns was operational 1950-2000.
Today it is possible to visit the museum and guns at STEVNSFORT COLD WAR MUSEUM. It is still possible to see the German Reich Eagle with the svastika, on the guns.
