Passing Battery Point fifty years ago today

Ditlev-Simonsen's 1964 built VINSTRA

sold to Iran in 1969 to become ARYA PEY, then in 1973 ARYA FAR and in 1980 IRAN HOJJAT

5.11.1982: on voyage from Kobe to Bandar Khomeini, struck in the engine room by a missile, caught fire and sank in the Khor Musa Channel. Three crew killed and several injured.

Lloyd's Register of the day describes her as a closed shelter deck ship having two decks with a third deck in numbers 3 & 4 holds, and as she has double gear at most hatches plus heavy derricks it is only her 'all aft' configuration that suggests she is a bulker.
