Description:

"Bonny" (formerly Salen's "Lindo") approaching New Orleans, 1975. The elderly Main Engine had badly worn piston rings, and made very much smoke, as you can see in the photo! A Pilot on a passing tanker called me on the VHF and asked "Motor vessel "Bonny"; you-all burning paint rags over there?".

Thanks for the info, Acrop. I had forgotten the name of the moored tanker .

The tanker on the background, being taken alongside the terminal, is a "Messiniaki XXXX" 30,000 dwt blt IHI 1969-1972 of Michail Karagiorgis S.A., Piraeus, Greece. Karagiorgis built more than a dozen of this series in IHI, which eventually ended up with Eletson and Chandris for more years of glorious trading, until they went for scrap in 1996.
