The 1946 Belfast built ore carrier YEBALA, owned by A.Yllera of Santander, is seen passing Portishead, outbound from Avonmouth exactly fifty years ago, on 20th January 1970.

Built as the tanker LYRIA for Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co Ltd, she was purchased by her Spanish owners in 1955 and soon converted by them for use as an ore carrier.

YEBALA finally arrived at Aviles in February 1975 for breaking, having sailed from Avonmouth on 15th February. This call had following two earlier voyages to the Tees at the end of 1974 and one to Belfast in January 1975.
