Description:
The Norwegian Ankerlokken yard produced a number of chemical tankers for the German operator De Vries during the Seventies. This is the ex-THORHAMER built as yard number 98 in 1975.
Fitted with twin medium speed GMT engines of 3000 BHP each, her twin uptakes were not only elegant but also useful. The yard obviously did have a good look at the HSG Polar Reefer class.
In 1983 she changed her name to ALCHIMIST HAMBURG, a name that did not stick as already in the same year she was renamed CHEMTANK HAMBURG. (See Above) to be renamed again in 1984 to CHEMICAL CONTENDER, as which she traded till 1988 to become KIRA and then in 1991 she went on charter to Saudi interests and became CHEMPETROL SAFINA II, only to become KIRA again 1992. Fate struck in 1996 as she went down in February, with a crew of 18. There were no survivors.
Former name(s):
- Chempetrol Safina Ii (Until 1992 Apr)
