I am keeping an open mind that her name may, or may not be, 'Vigilante'.
There are, of course, many other Portuguese words ending in 'ante'
One I thought of was 'Comandante' (Commander), but no joy yet.

Wilson Sons did have a VIGILANTE in Brazil 1887, but it was somewhat smaller than this (20grt 50ft); WS also had an AJUDANTE, though that was in Cape Verde adn didn't look anything like this one. In any case, they never had funnel colours anything like this. Any idea what the company could have been?
The "panelled" look of the wheelhouse is a reminscent of some of the smaller harbour tugs in Montevideo 15 years later - or of the old bondinhos.

I've looked in LR 1962, 1965 and 1969-70 and no reference to a tug of that name, also checked 1969-70 'Former Names of Ships' section in 1969-70 to no avail. Also looked under 'Rio de Janeiro' as possible owners.
This does not necessarily mean she is not the VIGILANTE, only that Lloyds does not record her as that in those volumes,
Best regards
Tom

In the original scan I made, it does appear that the preceding letter to 'N' is 'A'.
I lost the partial letter in editing.
Cannot find a suitable 'Vigilante', yet, so I will keep searching.
