A large amount of harmful substances such as asbestos and PCBs remain in the engine room of this ship. It would be nice to be able to alert workers to prevent health hazards, but there is no way to do so.

Pieter, I believe in good intentions of this warning, but I also believe that telling the breakers that their "prey" built in the sixties is full of asbestos and PCBs would be like telling the steel foundry workers that they will be working with hot metal. (I also have no doubt that the extensive coverage of the scrapping of this vessel will appear in robindesbois.org, and that asbestos/PCBs will play a big part in this story, no matter how factually correct.)

Cheers

Vlad, I was just the errant boy...

Her fate was the subject of some articles (in Japanese), stating that it was the deterioration of her hull and lack of spare parts that eventually led to her being sold to South Korean breakers.

Thanks Vlad! I guess the local tour market in Japan also took a hit from Covid, that may not have helped either...

How very sad, I never expected this one to still go for scrap.
