Description:

The shape of things to come... Is this the design that will make all other large container ship designs obsolete? Something like dividing the container shipping history timeline into "Before Ane Maersk" and "After Ane Maersk" categories?

I don't know.

But I'm sure that her looks will make people talk (or scream when pulling their hair out)...

Fresh from her sea trials, spotted at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan.

Thank you all for your comments. It seems like Maersk has got everyone's attention (again) with this one.

Cheers

The only purpose of this design is to stack more boxes than the bridge is high, will not have to sqeeze the block in between and lose space upfront.
Funnel way aft means also greater distance from engine, advantage?
Which designer cares about the well-being of crew, just apply the rules (hopefully not too many). I remember having a small pool and a boat deck for grill parties on cargo ships, what has happened to the recreation possibilities during the voyage? Yes, longer ago, but why should it be worsening?
Are we all money-making merchants to applause to this design? As photographer maybe yes.

All the way to zero means?
Emissions?
Buoyancy at the bow?
Bridge windows after the storm?
Pick-up locations for the heli?
Survivors?
Yes yes, it's all new and different but better?
Anyway, Happy New Year!

Hi Vlad thanks for sharing her in full glory.
Back to the design of US built containerships in the early 70's with accommodation completely forward.
Though this one is a multitude bigger than those ones TEU-wise.
Cheers,
Roy

Great photo. As for the lifeboat situation, they do have liferafts in the front.

I feel the lifeboats should have been put on the front, if there is an emergency the crew has a long haul before they get to them.

I like this shipping class! But I'm very surprised about the great distance between the bridge and the lifeboats! That could be really bad in case of a container fire on deck...
In my opinion they should have another lifeboats at the bridge, too! Maybe they have it, too - otherwise I could hardly believe it...

Best regards and a happy new year!
Malte

Thank you Vlad, this photo is a great New Year's gift! I'm interested to see if Maersk will at some point order a 400-metre version of this ship and how much the TEU intake will be. This one has a capacity of 16.000 TEU.

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Aleksi
