Description:

25/12/1978, aground at Hong Kong.

The photo and the following information are with the kind permission of Bernie Kemble, who was serving on the British Naval patrol ship 'HMS Wasperton' at Hong Kong.

See this video link of the ship crowded with refugees:
https://www.britishpathe.com/asset/133690/

"She was topped up to the gunwales with Vietnamese Refugees.
The events that I recall are, HMS Wasperton hosted negotiations between the Hong Kong authorities & the ship's captain.
When he came onboard he was not wearing shoes.
These negotiations went on for a few days. Eventually the refugees hacked or broke the anchor cable, resulting in her running around and the refugees being landed ashore for their safety."
