** Now identified as LOBITO IMO 5210129 **

An individual ship, built for Companhia Colonial de Navegação, Lisbon, Portugal.
Launched on 28/05/1959, and completed during November 1959, by Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelos, Viana do Castelo, Portugal (42)
5,981 g.t. & 9,817 dwt., as:
'Lobito' to 1983, &
'Independencia' until sold to Portugal for demolition.
Arrived Alhos Vedros, opposite Lisbon, on 19/01/1987.

Any suggestions please?
In the back of my mind, I have a feeling it is Portuguese owned, but I cannot think of the potential company/name.

Circa 1965-1968, the location has previously been positively identified as the port of Leixões, Portugal during the mid 1960's, by Luis Manuel Correia.

Appears to be a European built 5 hatch, unknown, general cargo ship, with an unusual mast & derrick arrangement.
The two main masts are fitted with Velle, or Hallen Type derricks. (Somebody please identify them?!)
The second mast from for'ard is a goalpost type.

Scanned from a poor quality slide in the collection of the late Niels Anker Larsen, former Danish Merchant Navy Radio Officer.

Lots of vents. Doesn’t look quite right for a livestock carrier. Cement carrier or other specialist ship?

Hi graham, thanks for the suggestion, but I have now cracked it.
Lloyds Register indicates she was built as a refrigerated motor vessel, with 14 winches and 16 derricks, ranging from 5 to 50 tonnes SWL.
I suspect, as she was built to serve the Portuguese colonies of the time, she was more likely a multi-purpose cargo ship.

Fitted with 1 X 5,500 hp Doxford engine, built by Barclay Curle & Co. Ltd., on the Clyde.
