Description:

Seen on 8th February 2024, lying in her final resting place in the Garden Island Ships' Graveyard where she was abandoned in 1910.

Built in Kirkaldy, Scotland in 1857 by John Brown and Company, the three-masted iron-hulled barque SUNBEAM was used in international trade under a number of owners before being converted to a coal hulk in Melbourne in 1886. She was brought to Port Adelaide shortly afterwards for use as a general hulk within the port. She was abandoned in the Garden Island Ships' Graveyard in October 1910, becoming the first iron-hulled vessel in the Graveyard.

The boiler lying adjacent to the starboard bow is of unknown origin.

This photo and the previous photo uploaded on 18th March were both taken shortly after low water on the biggest tide of the year. It is rare to see the water level low enough to expose the entire length of the hull remains.
