Glad this has come to the top again Derek in "Random photo of the day", great memories. Just uploaded a couple of mine from 1974, maybe the same day. Can anyone name the ship spotters gathered on the usual pile of wooden planks just behind the cars?

The Michelangelo and Raffaello are probably my most favourite ships of all time. Such as shame I never saw them. Thanks for posting this shot.

Also a beautiful liner. MICHELANGELO and her sister RAFAELLO, the Italian twins. I liked the funnel design. Thanks for sharing this nostalgic picture.

Landing Stage magic, oh yes I have some snaps of that. I have several with Phil's Mk II Escort and Steve Treadwell's Hillman Hunter in the foreground :-D
And those oil drums... I seem to remember they were the fuel for the Tilbury-Gravesend ferry, just standing there. My how times have changed!!!

Hi John
Thanks for the comment, I had no idea whose cars they were. I had an old Honda CD175 motorbike in those days! Also yes I think the drums were lubricants etc for the Tilbury ferry! Would not get away with that these days!!

Thanks for sharing this rare view. I hadn't realized that either of these Italian beauties even visited the UK!

Hi Rich,
Glad you like the shot, not sure how many times she visited the UK. Don't think her sister ever did.
