Description:

Still at Mokpo New Port, with investigation to the cause of her sinking, as well as the efforts to locate the bodies of those passengers still considered missing ongoing.
Even as a part of her starboard side was removed, the talk is that it's not the start of her scrapping, but only a way to make her insides more accessible.

This 4,000-ton displacement ferry was originally built in Japan to carry a total of 921 passengers. After 18 years of accident-free service she was sold to a Korean company, which added three additional upper decks in order to accommodate an additional 117 passengers. Those modifications also added another 239 tons of weight to the ship, mostly to the upper superstructure. One does not have to be a naval architect to understand that those modifications are going have a negative effect on the ship's stability.
